As we celebrate the solemnity of Our Lady of Health, patroness of our Diocese of Terrassa, the hearts of the faithful are filled with gratitude and trust. Under this tender invocation—Mary, Health of the Sick—which we venerate in her sanctuary in Sabadell, we contemplate the Mother of God as the one who, at the foot of the cross, shared her Son’s suffering and learned to transform pain into a source of salvation and hope.
When we look to Mary, we discover in her a presence that consoles and never abandons. She does not take away the pain, but she enters into it with us; she cannot always heal the body, but she always touches the heart. That is why so many sick people, whether in hospitals, care homes, or at home, find in prayer to Our Lady of Health a serene strength and a peace that does not come from medicine but from faith. The Blessed Virgin Mary reminds us that God is not indifferent to human suffering. In the face of the sick, we see the very face of Christ; and in the hands that care for them, we discover the maternal hands of Mary, watching over, comforting, and embracing.
Thus, devotion to Our Lady of Health is an invitation for us also to become bearers of health and salvation: through a kind word, patience, presence, and empathy.
On this feast, we ask Mary to teach us to see with eyes of compassion, to live with a merciful heart, and to be instruments of God’s tenderness in the world. May Our Lady of Health bless all who suffer, all who care for them, and our entire diocese, so that in her we may always find the hand that leads us to Jesus, the one true source of life and healing.
